Starting Out

After character creation, you start in the mom's house as usual. Talking to her shows you were the professor's lab is (Out of the house, and go to the right once you've left, if the image she gives doesn't help). The professor gives you your starter or masterball choice when you talk to him, however the options are a bit different. You're first given a list of generations and the master ball choice. Each generation contains different starters + 1 unique starter.

First Generation: Charmander, Squirtle, Bulbasaur, Pikachu.
Second Generation: Cyndaquil, Chikorita, Totodile, Aipom.
Third Generation: Torchic, Treecko, Mudkip, Beldum.
Fourth Generation: Chimchar, Turtwig, Piplup, Glameow.
Fifth Generation: Tepig, Snivy, Oshawott, Axew.

Frail Town
After getting your pokemon, leave town and head left and downward till you've reached a sign post. Read the signpost to learn the various locations and the directions you should go. To begin with though, you should stop in Frail Town to listen to the Kingdom Teller's story and purchase some pokeballs from the mart. The sign will direct you to the right to get to town, keep going right until you hit a downward turn.

The other locations avaliable on the kingdom region are the Bird Sanctuary, Fire Cave, Destiny Village (your home town), and the Desert. The sign posts direct you to several of these, but areas such as the desert and it's secrets must be explored on your own.

Training
The most important factors in training are the enemy's level and your pokemon's type. Every kill yields the enemies level*X depending on certain variables. The exp amount earned is Level*10 for neutral-effectiveness, Level*15 for super-effectiveness, and Level*20 for not-very effective. For example, a Krabby kills a lv8 Magby, the Krabby gains 120 exp because it was a super-effective KO. Several areas are good for specific types. Three of my usual training spots are:

Fire Cave: Great for Rock, Ground, Fire, Ice, and Water types. These types get bonuses ranging from 10-20x depending on the pokemon. Zubat Spawns occasionally cause an annoyance for ground types, however.

Area East of Destiny Village: It's full of poison, fighting, and water/flying types, so makes a good training ground for fighting types who hit poison types less effectively. Occasional absol spawns, as well.

Unknown Cave: Good for all types, especially Dark, Ghost, and Fighting. Unknowns in the cave range from lv15-28, providing a minimum of 150 exp a kill.

Becoming a Gym Leader/Etc
The gym leader requirements are: 3 pokemon of the gym type level 40. The cap for gym leaders is 90. Team leaders require three pokemon of the required type level 60, and cap @ the player cap of lv150. Elite Four are selected directly by Sin, and must use Flying, Ice, Dragon, or Psychic Types, unlike Gym Leaders they require a full team of pokemon.

Storyline and Secrets
The game has many secrets, locked either by badges or storyline, for the players to explore. For example, the Kingdom Teller in Frail Town explains something that happened in the past, and eventually you'll be to able unlock the secrets of that time--but only if you pay attention to and remember the story. Many pokemon and areas cannot be achieved without exploring, finding secrets, and earning badges, so be sure to do everything you can.
